Update on Mama (part 10)

Update on Mama (Part 10)

3-25-21

Mommy is doing much.  She is getting some what back to her old self.  She has been helping the nurses to transfer from bed to the wheelchair and back again.  She has been standing up on her good leg with the walker.  She has beencalling up and checking up on us.

She had been asking for some loving and get well cards.  She informed Dad today that she has gotten at least 40 get well cards.  Which I think has been her mind.  She also didn't realize that she would be getting that many or more.  For the ones of you, who have already sent cards to her, Thank you so much!

She has a doctor's appointment (wellness check up) on Friday to go an see the surgeon, who did her surgery.  She has a total of 20 staples in the bottom of her foot.  This past weekend, she called me and told that she was getting pretty.  I asked her how, she said she was getting her nails painted pink and purple.  Which mom is not a girly girl.  So she must be having fun.  Oh, an one other thing.  Mom shaved her head.  She has not hair.  She was getting tired of dealing with the hair.  So, she shaved it off.  She is also wearing cancer beanie hats.  SHE DOES NOT HAVE CANCER.    She didn't want to put up with it and her foot.

Dealing with Family Members who has had a Stroke

Dealing with a Family Member who has had a Stroke

Many People have known someone close to them - as a loved one or a friend, who had suffered from a stroke.  As you guys know, some strokes can be very deadly & can kill someone.  Then you have the strokes that show signs/ paralysis.  Then you have the strokes that shows NOTHING!!!  You don't even know that you have had one until you have an MRI / CAT Scan done.  Then the doctors share the news with you.

That is what happen with Heather and my mom.  None of us knew what was going on. Neither one had signs/ symptoms or paralysis.  So, we didn't know.  Heather had her stroke in May 2020.  She kept saying her head hurt, that's all was said.  She also kept asking where she was.  Which didn't throw up a red flag.  Then she kept acting out.  However, we didn't think anything about it.  It got harder and harder for her to explain the way she was feeling.

So, she went to ARMC to find out what was going on.  That is where she did the MRI and found out she had a stroke (ischemic) on the right side of her brain.  Which the part of her brain where she had her stroke had died.  Then while in the hospital, she had several mini strokes.  She sometimes has trouble remembering things.  When she got back home, its day and night the way she acts.  One moment she acts like a young child and then at a flip of the switch, she is to somewhat normal.  This has been going on almost a year.  Its going to be a long recovery process for her to be able to try to get back to normal, if that happens.

Now with Mama, it's somewhat different.  Mom had no signs/ symptoms or paralysis to show that she had a stroke.  However she went in for other reasons.  They did an MRI to see was causing her to talk out of mind.  That was when they found out that she did have a stroke.  She also was having an internal reaction to an antibiotic that was being give through a PICC Line ( that goes directly into the heart).  The antibiotic was slowly killing her and shutting everything down.  She had trouble explaining what she wanted us to do or help her with.

Its going to be a long recovery for Mom, she has to do Physical & Occupational Therapy for her foot and then for her stroke.  As of right now, while in rehab - she shows no signs of any paralysis.  Which is great.  Mom is trying her best to start moving around, however she has to stay off her foot 4 to 6 weeks.  She loves her nurses.  She has a checkup with her foot doctor on Friday.   She is even getting pampered.  She got her nails painted.  However there is one big thing that I haven't mentioned is that she has shaved her head.  The reason she did it was she didn't have to deal with that and her foot, too.

I just had to write something about this.  I have been looking into this lately and seen that "the researchers found that among mothers who had a stroke, the risk for a stroke was highest among their daughters."   Which I have found to be very interesting.  Some kinds of strokes have a genetic component that can be tested.  It can be common for many people in your family to have strokes, because of the increase stroke risk.  I also didn't know that strokes can be inherited.  You learn something new everyday.

Please take care of yourself. Take it easy.

As I found information that I find is very useful and interesting.  I will continue to post it.  Thank you for allowing me to vent and educate you at the same time.

Update on Momma (Part 9)

 3-17-21

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!  I have been keeping everyone up to date about Mom's Health Conditions.  She is currently in rehab at Peak Resources in Graham.  She will be there for 4 to 6 weeks.  She can't put no pressure on her left foot at all.  So all she can do is watch TV, Listen to Music, Watch cars go by her window and do some coloring.  Which I know her Physical & Occupational Therapists will be very happy.  As I said above she has a window in her room.  Which means we can visit her, through a window.

If you would like her address and room number, please message me,  She would love to receive some cards and messages.  She also love encouraging messages and surprises.

Please continue to pray for her and my family.

Thank you all very much for your thoughts and prayers.

WE LOVE EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU GUYS!!

Update on Momma (part 4)

3-3-21

Mom had been moved to another room. Dad is hanging out with her, today.  She has been barely eating.  But she has been drinking Strawberry smoothies.  So today, for lunch Dad ordered her a hamburger & mashed potatoes.  He looked away.  When he looked back at her, she had picked up the hamburger and was holding it.  She was feeding herself mashed potatoes with a spoon. Dad also talked to the doctor, her surgery is still on for tomorrow.

Please continue to pray for her and the doctors, who are doing the surgery.

Update on Momma (part 3)

3-1-21

On Sunday, Dad went to visit her and took her some goodies from the house.  She had an allergic reaction to one of the antibiotics that she was taking through the PICC line.  So, it's a internal reaction to the medicine.  Right now, she is slowly but surely turning around.

When I talked to her.  She knew my voice and started getting choked up.  But, when Dad walked in the room.  She yelled, Yeah!  Which the nurse thought it was cute.  Then the nurse could barely get her to eat.  Dad fed her & she ate almost every thing.

Dad went today for a visit & they are still going to do her surgery on Thursday.  But Dad said, he can see a slight change in her.  Her vocabulary had improved since last Thursday.
